Gunning Open Gardens Scheme

This weekend, I can't wait to go to Collingwood for the Open Gardens Scheme. Given that we will be gardening around our new house once all the plans are complete and we start building, it will be interesting to see what plants are suitable to our climate.

The Open Garden is advertised as ...

Huge English elm trees, thought to be the oldest in Australia, shade and shelter the 1820s homestead at 2312 Cullerin Road, Gunning.  A true country garden, Collingwood features irises, roses, lavender, rock roses, honesty and sage. A woodland area, its old trees underplanted with hundreds of bulbs creates a vibrant spring display.

Two very old wisterias are draped across the verandah and a magnificent crab apple is surrounded by softly coloured hellebores. The garden features lovely stone walls, paths and arches dripping with fragrant plants. Lilacs of many hues are beautiful in spring and lily of the valley and English primrose, which hide beside the paths under the trees, put on a delightful show.  Teas and light lunches will be available.

Proceeds donated to Lucy Wangari (sponsored child), Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya’s community.
Garden address
2312 Cullerin Road, Gunning

Science Fair

My daughter has a Science Fair next week at school as part of Education Week. She has chosen to do felting as her display of a science experiment (hot soapy water, wool, friction, shrinkage!) with no prompting by mother!

Can't wait to see her results, as she has already made two scarves that have won prizes at the local show and she has a unique eye for colour ....

Left Out

I spent today whispering to my daughter all the reasons why she had been left out of a party with our nearest neighbour's son, which others in her class (girls included) had mostly been invited and she had not.

I don't get excluding children from parties. Seriously,  I don't. I think it is rude. And cruel. To be within in view of your class mates, but not asked. Oh well, she rode her horse with Daddy and her brother instead.

When my son had a party last year with two of his mates, I made sure that all the members of his class were invited whether my son liked it or not. I also made sure that the new boy who had just moved in was invited with his parents and younger brother so that they would get to meet more people in the community.

I just figure that our nearest neighbour was having a Wiggles party and didn't want her to know that he was still a Wiggles fan at the grand old age of 12.

Canberra Region Feltmakers

If you live near Canberra and are at a loose end this weekend, the the CSIRO Discovery Centre at Black Mountain is hosting "Metamorphosis, Rapt in Felt" - Annual Exhibition and Bazaar by the Canberra Region Feltmakers.

One of my good friends, Terry Nash, is one of the exhibiting artists.(If you check the brochure out I think she made the mat on the bottom right.)

Unfortunately, I don't think that I am going to get to go, between taking the kids to soccer in Goulburn and having to do a shift at Creative Gunning on Sunday ... but if I could, I would!! Terry also has some rather magnificent stuff at Creative Gunning and is involved with the Wine, Wool & Jazz night that the Gunning Show Society runs in conjunction with the Gunning Show in February of each year.

The fashion parades start at 12.30 pm on Saturday and Sunday and I have enclosed a link if you wish to find out more!
